Know the World's First Smartphone Using Full Screen Touchscreen, IBM Simon

Antartika Raya.- Full touchscreen smartphone is now becoming a trend and are often found in different types of smartphones. Many people say that the iPhone is a pioneer in the design of a full touchscreen mobile phone. But the iPhone is clearly not the world's first smartphone with full touchscreen display.


IBM is a smartphone called Simon who is the first smart phone in the world to be equipped with a touch screen. In terms of design, this phone does have a form that is much different from the iPhone, especially in terms of size. Both phones are 180 degrees different.

IBM Simon was first introduced at COMDEX event held in 1992. IBM Simon has the capabilities of a mobile phone, PDA, pager and fax machines. Inside the phone there are also some simple applications, such as calculator, calendar, address book, and world clock. This mobile phone also has no physical buttons for navigation. Instead, this phone relies full touchscreen display that can be operated by hand or stylus.

Furthermore, the phone went on sale by one U.S. phone carrier, BellSouth Cellular in May 1994. Unfortunately, the initial launch, this phone had experienced problems in terms of software and ultimately could only be obtained in the market on August 16, 1994.

Regarding the price, this one smartphone when it sold for $ 899 USD with a two year contract. The customer can get this phone unlocked for $ 1099 USD. In the first six months, the phone is able to sell as many as 50 thousand units.
